_the first two days of the week was pretty quiet because of the Melbourne Cup _ a lot of employees took the Monday off as well to have a long weekend, thus Monday was almost as chill as Tuesday _ although, the students have had their last week with deadlines and so on, so they did not really eased up, they were all working really diligently _ on Tuesday, I arrived too early (around 8.30 am) to our building finding it closed – later it was opened and after an interesting half day in the library (it was not as wuiet as I would imagein a library should be, but this was so) we could have our usual place which was a relief for everybody, including Manow, Maria and me _ Jeni saw me and jokingly asked about not being a horse racing fan but we agreed that we have too much to do just to watch horses running and betting on them_

_on Wednesday, we had our meeting with Jeni, but Ian could not join this time – this was now not a problem, it was great with Jeni anyway _ we have talked about future stuff which is soo good to look forward to, she made a declaration about she is not afraid about me having problems with interviews like her other PhD students due to me being proactive in so many ways (basically she said that in case I will have interviews, I will get the interviews done with anyone I want to … I don’t know what she meant by that :D) and she reassured me about the Pre-Confirmation of Candidature (PCoC) review next week: there will be no hard questions, just be open and curious about the panel members’ opinion (if this is all it takes to get pass this review, I am all for it, but anyway, I am really interested in what they have to say about this topic – my chair member is the Smart City Institute leader and founder, so I guess he will have some ideas) _ we finished with Jeni the meeting with talking about the Building Bridges which is a presentation day for PhD students at our faculty to start present their researches _ I was very interested and had a lot of presentations in mind to attend to, but Jeni asked me about the closing event only because there were free food and drinks (she had an other conference to go to), but I made her aware of the program so she knew when to come _ (and obviously I made up my mind to take part this event next year and present my research topic, because it will be awesome)_

_so I went to this conference and I listened to the presentations of fellow students about VR in teaching kids about the dangers of a rif wave, green space and how they affect the well being of humans in an urban area, Industry 4.0 and its effects on the industrial design, and instruments designed for VR _ it was amazing to listen to these guys, and after that I was able to network a little _ thus our small PhD group thing is not so small anymore and is more diverse by progression of  PhD, and I am so happy about it_

_in the evening, we went to the Toastmaster evening with Ben _ basically we made each other to go convincing each other that this will be great to go and useful, not the least (because both of us were really tired, but we like this really much so it would have been sad later if we hadn’t gone) _ and it turned out that the ladies in the group made a support team for me (basically, and okay, not just for me), but Kamilla (a member for 30 years with some amazing experience and even more enthusiasm and energy) checked in to be my mentor and I am so happy about this as well _ moreover, Janine, the club’s VPE made a note about a competition on Saturday and we decided with Ben to go there_

_on Thursday I had a little weird workshop about workplace communication skills _ it was useful, but weird and not suitable for everyone _ for example, the leading lady made us meditate at the end of the first half and there was a guy, Mohsem, who is an astrophysicist and was not really a keen on such an exercise (it was a little hilarious watch them talk)_

_on Saturday, we really took the opportunity and went to the competition, but Ben looked it up and it turned out to be way far away from us _ thus, Ben called for an uber, and it was just perfect _ our driver was a lovely man, with love for Europe and Italy, and architecture, plans to live in London for four years, and great experiences about his uber carrier _ he made us laugh and then we made him _ he remembered being in Budapest, and being the Westend Railway station because he really liked the architecture of the station’s building _ we had a fun 15 minutes chat with him about Italian tiramisu and gelato and coffee (he admitted that he hadn’t liked coffee before but then he tasted it in Rome and since then he is hooked – it is so fortunate for him to being moved from Sydney to Melbourne because the last is known as the coffee capital of Australia) _ so it was astonishingly great to have a ride like that, and at the end he wished us luck with our life in here and we wished him luck with London (he will move in January… he knows this is not the best time to move there, but he want to help his friends there and anyway)_

_on the speechcontest, Kamilla and Janine were really glad to see us, although too nervous to really talk to us _ so we started networking again, and it was just great _ we have met a guy who just talks like Boris Johnson (former London mayor, current prime minister in UK), a nuclear physicist working with radiation for cancer patients, a lady who dragged her husband to the morning and was very interested in my PhD topic, and an other lady from Germany who learned Latin in high school so I had a lot to talk about with her (because I had to learn as well) _ there were speech contests (5-7 minutes long), than evaluation contest (2-3 minutes long), table topic contest (one random topic given to talk about 1-2 minutes) and a humor contest (basically stand up comedy for 5-7 minutes) _ we were there to cheer to we cheered the hell out of the place _ at some point another contestant asked us how much our acquaintances are paying us for this kind of cheer, but sadly admitted that this is without payment although we are not sure whether we will be invited again for cheer to anybody (again, just like with Amélie) _ Sam, the last of out club to perform was a little nervous, but he was able to talk with us about how many times we have to cheer for him to have a free membership at toastmasters _ he thought for a while, then declared at least 20 times – which is not worth it because these competitions take place only once in a year, so this would be a very bad deal for us _ at some other point we considered to disturb other contestants with throwing tomatoes at them, but then we agreed with Ben no to do this because my aiming skills would cause huge problems being basically absent in my life (so then we didn’t throw anything at anybody)_ during the event, we were even useful members of the community because we were replacements for really important jobs, I was counting votes and accompanied contestants, while Ben was a second timekeeper _ so at least they made a little use of us as well_

_after the contests, we went for a street festival – they didn’t arrange the weather though _ it was raining and then not and then again and then not _ but we made the most of our time by eating African barbecue – why was it African except African people were selling it? well that is a good question we have no answer for it _ after eating and stuff, we started to come home but the rain was really heavy to ran into a shop for cover (our raincoats are amazing but not that amazing) _ and it was a randomly chosen shop: a Harry Potter gift shop, everything you can imagine to by from the Harry Potter movies _ it was amazing, and we realized how not real fans are we not having any stuff they sold there_

_today was a quiet day to prepare for the week _ I went to the church, made shopping on the way home, then baked brownie and banana bread _ I was under the impression that we will eat this lot for a week, but the half of the brownies are gone _ I asked Ben about this phenomena and he told me he has no idea with a mouth covered with chocolate _ what a mystery_

_az első két nap igazából egész csöndes volt a Melbourne Cup miatt _ rengetegen kivették a hétfőt a keddi szünnap miatt, hogy legyen egy hosszú hétvégéjük, szóval a hétfő majdnem olyan nyugis volt, mint a kedd _ bár, meg kell valljam, a diákok meglehetősen rendesen dolgoztak _ a héten volt a félév zárása, mindenféle határidővel, szóval ők nem pihiztek. hanem szorgalmasan dolgoztak_ kedden túl korán érkeztem az egyetemre (8:30-ra) és a szünnapon ez annyira korainak számított, hogy be volt zárva még az épületünk – később kinyitották, ami nagyon jó volt, mert egy izgalmas, kevésbé nyugodt délelőtt után a könyvtárban (nem annyira csöndes az a könyvtár, mint egy könyvtárat elképzelnék, de hát ez ilyen) elfoglalhattuk a helyünket a szokásos emeleten a szokákos hangzavarban, ami megnyugvást jelentett Manownak, Mariának és nekem _ Jeni is benn volt és látott, oda is jött viccelődve megkérdezni, hogy nem vagyok valami nagy lóverseny hívő, mi? de aztán egyet értettünk, hogy túl sok a dolgunk ahhoz, hogy pacikat nézzünk futkorászni egy versenypályán és fogadjunk rájuk_

_szerdán megvolt a szokásos egyeztetésünk Jenivel, Ian nélkül kivételesen – ami nem volt gond, Jenivel is nagyon jó volt _ beszélgettünk jövőbeni dolgokról, amik felé olyan jó tekinteni meg haladni, hogy nem annyira félt engem, mint a másik két PhDsát, mert jobban proaktívabb vagyok náluk (nagyjából azt mondta, hogy ha interjúztatni kell, akkor valószínűleg megszerzem az interjút mindenkitól, akitől akarom… nem tudom, hogy mire gondolhatott :D) és próbált megnyugtatni a PhD Kandidátus Elő-Megerősítés Megtekintéssel kapcsolatban (angolul ez királyabbul hangzik….) ami következő héten lesz: nem lesznek nehéz kérdések, csak legyek nyitott meg érdeklődő a bírák véleményével kapcsolatban (ha csak ennyi szükséges, hogy átmenjek ezen, akkor nem lesz gond, én leszek a világ legkíváncsibb embere, meg egyébként is nagyon érdekel, hogy mit fognak mondani a témáról – a főbíra a Swinburne Okos Város Intézmény vezetője és alapítója, szóval van egy sanda gyanúm, hogy neki leszenk észrevételei) _ Jenivel úgy fejeztük be, hogy a Building Bridges PhD konferenciáról beszélgettünk és kérdezte az időbeosztást, merthogy a végén volt ingyen kaja meg pia (egy másik konferencián vett részt napközben, azért nem tudott erre jönni), de mondtam, neki, hogy mi van a programban, úgyhogy tudta, hogy mikorra kell odaérni (egyébként meg nyilván elhatározam, hogy jövőre én is elő fogok adni ezen a konferencián, mert király lesz)_

_szóvel elmentem erre a konferenciára, és meghallgattam sorstársaimat VR használatáról gyerekek tanításában, hogy hogyan kerüljék el a veszélyes hullámokat; zöld felületekről a városban és annak hatásairól a városlakók jólétére; Industry 4.0 irányelvekről és a terméktervezőkre tett hatásáról; és zenei eszkökről VRban zenekészítéshez _ elképesztő volt hallgatni ezeket az embereket, utána meg nagyon jó volt velük kapcsolatokat építeni _ ennek köszönhetően a mi kis PhD csapatunk már nem is olyan kicsi, és meglehetősen válozatos lett egy rakat PhDvel előrébbhaladott emberrel, aminek nagyon örülök_

_este elmentünk a Toastmasterekhez Bencével újra _ igazság szerint, jól meggyőztük egymást, hogy jó lesz az elmenni nekünk oda, és hasznos lesz a másiknak legalább (mind a ketten fáradtak voltunk, de mind a ketten tudjuk a másikról, hogy szereti ezt, és szomorú lett volna, hogy ha kihagyjuk) _ and úgy tűnik, hogy a hölgyek a klubban egy támogató csoportot hoztak létre számomra (jójó, nem csak számomra), de Kamilla (egy 30 éve toastmaster tag még annál is több tapasztalattal és energiával) bejelentkezett, hogy szívesen lenne a mentorom _ ezen felül, Janine, az oktatási alelnök a klubban, megjegyezte a gyűlés végén, hogy szombaton lesz egy beszédverseny, úgyhogy Bencével elhatároztuk, hogy elmegyünk szurkolni a többieknek_

_csütörtökön részt vettem egy hosszú gyakorlaton munkahelyi kommunikáció témában _ hasznos volt, de azért néha furi és nem teljesen mindnekinek megfelelő _ például, az előadó hölgy a végén végeztetett velünk meditációt, amit egy résztvevő srác, Mohsem, nem annyira értékelt, mert asztrofizikus lévén számára ez nem volt túl hasznos (hullavicces volt hallgatni a beszélgetésüket)_

_szombaton végül valóban elmentünk a versenyre, de Bence jól megnézte, hogy hova kellett volna menni, és közölte, hogy akkor ezt most nem bumlizzuk végig, hanem híve egy ubert _ így hát hívott egyet, és kiderült, hogy ez szuper megoldás volt, mert a sofőr elképesztően jó arc volt, szerette Európát és Olaszországot, az építészetet, és épp Londonba költözésén dolgozott és egy rakat vicces története volt még az uberes melóból is _ emlékezett Budapestre, merthogy volt ott is, és külön emlékezett a Westendre, meg a Nyugatira, mert annyura tetszett neki az állomás épülete _ nagyon vicces 15 perces beszégetés volt az olasz tiramisuról és fagyiról és kávéról (bevallotta, hogy az olaszoknál vált függővé, és utána költözött Sydneyből Melbourne-be, amit Ausztrália kávé fővárosának tartanak) _ elképesztően jó utunk volt, és mikor kiszálltunk, sok szerencsét kívánt nekünk mi meg neki Londonba (januárban fog költözni … tudja, hogy nem a legjobb időpont de akkoris, megy segíteni a barátainak, meg egyébként is mindegy az időjárás)_

_a beszédversenyen, Kamilla és Janine nagyon örültek, hogy megjelentünk, de azért elég idegesek is voltak ahhoz, hogy beszélgessünk velük a verseny előtt _ úgyhogy ismét elkezdtünk kapcsolatokat építeni _ találkoztunk egy pasival, aki úgy beszélt, mint Boris Johnson (korábbi London polgármester, mostani miniszterelnök Angliában); egy nukláris fizikussal, aki rákos betegek sugárzásával dolgozik, hogy az emberiség hasznára legyen praktikus megoldásokkal; egy hölggyel, aki a férjét is elrángatta a versenyre és nagyon érdeklődött a PhD témám iránt; és egy másik hölggyel, aki Németországból származik, tanult németül a középsuliban, úgyhogy volt egy rakat minden, amiről bebszélgetni tudtunk (merthogy én is tanultam latint) _ a verseny maga állt egy normál beszéd részből (5-7 percesek), egy értékelő részből (2-3 perces értékelő beszédek), random elemekből (random témák 1-2 perces beszédekhez) és egy humoros beszéd részből (nagyjából stand up 5-7 percig) _ és mivel mi szurkolni mentünk, hát nagyon szurkoltunk is _ egy ponton egy résztvevő megkérdezett minket, hogy mennyit fizetnek nekünk ezért a szurkolásért a klub társaink, de szomorúan beismertük, hogy ingyen bár nem tudjuk, hogy a következő ilyesnre lesz-e lehetőségünk jönni még (megint, mint Amélienél) _ Sam, az utolsó előadó klub társunk egy picit ideges volt, de vele tudtunk beszélgetni, mielőtt fellépett volna, és megfontolta, hogy hányszor kéne szurkolni neki, hogy ingyenes legyen a tagságunk – 20ban állapodott meg végül, ami annyira nem éri meg nekünk, mert évente egyszer vannak ilyen események _ egy másik ponton elkezdtünk gondolkodni Bencével azon, hogy megdobálunk embereket paradicsommal, hogy megzavarjuk őket, és a mi klubtársunk nyerjen így, de aztán megegyeztünk, hogy ezt ne csináljuk inkább, mert az én célzóképességeim igen nagy problémát tudnának okozni, minthogy nincsenek _ az eseményen amúgy hasznos tagjai is voltunk a társadalomnak, mert 2 rendező résztvevő nem jelent meg, így szerény személyem egyszer számolt szavazatokat és kísért résztvevőket, míg Bence a másodidőmérő szerepét kapta meg _ így legalább hasznunk is volt_

_a verseny után elmentünk egy utcai fesztiválra – de ők annyira nem egyeztetettek az időjárással _ egyszer esett, egyszer nem , aztán megint, aztán megint nem _ de azért kihoztuk a lehető legtöbbet az eseményből, mert ettünk afrikai grill kaját – hogy miért volt afrikai azon kívül, hogy afrikaiak árulták? ez egy nagyon jó kérdés, amire nem tudjuk a választ _ miután megettük, el is indultunk hazafelé, de annyira esett az eső épp akkor, hogy be kellett meneküljünk előle egy boltba (szuperek az esőkabátjaink, de azért nem ennyire), ami egy random bolt volt, de kiderült, hogy egy Harry Potter mindent is áruló bolt volt _ elképesztő volt, és megállapítottuk, hogy egyáltalán nem számítunk fanatikus támogatóknak, tekintettel arra, hogy semmi, amit itt árultak nincs meg nekünk_

_a mai nap csöndesen telt készüléssel a hétre _ elmentem a misére, hazafelé bevásároltam, itthon pedig megcsináltam a browniet és a banán kenyeret _ azt hittem, hogy egy ideig enni fogjuk ezt a süti mennyiséget, de a brownie fele már el is fogyott _ megkérdeztem Bencét, hogy van-e erről bármi tudomása, mire visszakérdezett hogy miről? ártatlan arccal és csokis szájjal _ micsoda rejtély_
